123Net Inc., one of Michigan’s largest fiber optics networks, added 476 route miles of fiber in the past 12 months, expanding its backbone to 2,448 route miles across the state.

“Michigan businesses are demanding more than cable Internet. They want fiber directly to their businesses. Dedicated fiber that can deliver more bandwidth (up to 10Gbps) with much better uptime than cable,” said Dan Irvin, CEO at 123Net.  “123Net continues to invest heavily in infrastructure to ensure that we meet the needs of our Michigan customers in terms of network performance and customer service.”

Through a series of strategic investments including fiber swaps, acquisitions and new constructions, 123Net has bolstered its backbone in core hubs like metro Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing.  Additional routes were also added to better serve more rural markets with an emphasis on Northern Michigan.

With fiber speeds up to 10 Gbps, 123Net has the infrastructure to deliver dedicated Internet, phone service and connectivity to provide businesses with a better option at competitive rates.

“Adding fiber has a direct impact on our customer service mission to provide simple, reliable, effective and secure solutions to meet business IT and communication needs,” said Irvin.  “Our customers especially appreciate 123Net’s willingness to provide dedicated fiber directly into a business, often connected directly to their data center cabinets.”

The 123Net fiber expansion comes on the heels of two other recent expansion efforts.  Last week, the company announced the acquisition of MICA.Net’s business customers who are primarily concentrated in southeastern Michigan.  In April, 123Net announced its high speed fixed wireless expansion to Grand Rapids bringing an additional nine Points of Presence (PoP) sites and gigabit speeds available throughout the metro area.
