During welcome weekend, a group of new students from Brazil, China and India were driven by LTU to CK Mediterranean Grille for their first meal in America. These new students are part of an ongoing trend toward more international students at LTU as its reputation for excellence spreads around the world.
International students also know they will receive a warm welcome in a diverse community like Southfield’s City Centre.” LTU appreciates the warm reception of our friends in the business community towards our students,” said Dean of Students Kevin Finn.
Many businesses donated food during welcome weekend so that LTU students could experience their own “mini Taste of Southfield.”
“LTU is becoming a more residential campus and we are continuing to look for more ways to further involve students here in Southfield, said LTU’s Student Engagement Coordinator Phil Lucas. “When LTU and Southfield City Centre businesses collaborate, the positive effect on the community is greater.”
Comfort Suites provided a discounted rate for parents so that they could stay nearby as their children moved in. LTU provided a special parents-only program during welcome weekend that included a tour of Southfield.
“We are so excited to have the LTU students back! They help make our businesses successful as they frequent those establishments to dine and find entertainment,” said Tanya Markos-Vanno, executive director of the Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s important to our businesses that LTU students have a good experience when on campus.”
