The Southfield State of the City address will be delivered by Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence on Monday, March 18 at the Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at the Westin Hotel.

Lawrence Technological University (LTU), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and DENSO are joining the Chamber in sponsoring the event. LTU President Virinder K. Moudgil, who has been actively cultivating the relationship between his school and the City of Southfield, will introduce the Mayor. The State of the City address will give business owners, community members, and officials an opportunity to network.

The address will feature Mayor Lawrence’s recap of 2012. “Having Mayor Lawrence talk about Southfield’s past year will be wonderful. We still have a long way to go as a city, but we are headed in the right direction,” said Chamber Chairman Doug Davis. “I’m excited for everyone to hear about all of the great things that have happened over the past year.”

Former Chamber Chairman Ruth Aaronson added, “It’s a chance to hear about the good things that have happened. I truly believe in the city – both the business and the government.”

In addition to the Mayor’s address, Aaronson will be passing the gavel to Davis at the event.

I nominated him to be on the board a few years ago,” said Aaronson. “He’s a genuinely wonderful person.”

Davis said that he his thrilled to have this opportunity. “To me, the position is a challenge that I embrace because the City of Southfield is growing and I’m excited to be a part of that,” he said. “The Chamber has grown heavily over the past three years since I became involved, and I’ll have the opportunity to make this a better place as Chair.”
